RAF Laarbruch

Royal Air Force Laarbruch ICAO EDUL(from 1 January 1995 ETUL) was a Royal Air Force station located in Germany on its border with the Netherlands. The base’s motto was Ein’ Feste Burg – “A Fortress Sure”). After closing in 1999 the airfield found a new civilian lease of life as the budget airline airport Flughafen Niederrhein (Lower Rhine Airport), now known as Airport Weeze after the nearest large village. Civil operations began in May 2003.

Early this year a friend and i drove to Germany to give Laarbruch a visit. It is a strange location, the roads are very busy because the airport is now used for low cost flights. But when you leave the road its quiet, you can see the nature is overtaking the buildings, its strange. There are many old buildings, most of them are in use, some of them not.

So we sneaked in a barracks and explored the forest near the airfield.
