Infrared Modification

A couple of months ago i bought a the R72 IR filter to make ‘strange’ photos with my Sony A200. But then i discovered that the Sony is really bad with IR light. Almost every camera has a IR Cut-off filter to block IR light for the sensor. If you want make IR photos this is bad. You can use a infrared filter with a normal camera but you have to use long exposure times.

So i wanted a dedicated IR camera, Yesterday i scored a Fuji S1000FD compact cam and some small screwdrivers. Time to mod a cam, I removed the IR Cut-off filter that’s for the sensor and replaced it with a custom made IR filter (because the R72 Filter was too thick). The custom filter is a cut out of a old floppy disk… yes really.

I had some problems with the cam but for now its finished, i made some sample IR pictures with very short exposure times. The photo from the remote control is to test how IR sensitive is the cam after the mod. And the memory card reader was very funny, it is dark blue and you can hardly see anything inside of it, but with IR light…
